Hussein Chalayan is Vionnet’s new demi-couture designer (France)

The famous British-Turkish-Cypriot fashion talent Hussein Chalayan has been appointed as the new demi-couture design head by the well-known Parisian fashion house Vionnet.

Known for his highly experimental and architectural approach towards fashion design, the 43-year-old is set to unveil his maiden collection for the label on January 21, 2014 at the highly-anticipated Couture Fashion Week in the French capital.

Twice awarded with British Designer of the Year trophy, the talented Paris Fashion Week (PFW) regular celebrated the 20th anniversary of his eponymous line last year.

His latest ready-to-wear collection, Breeze Corridor, showcased at the September, 2013 edition of PFW, displayed jackets with inverted and unfurled linings, plain white shirts and magnificently voluminous georgette and velvet evening gowns.

Best known for elegantly draped Grecian column-style dresses, the French couture house Vionnet is largely credited for the introduction of bias cut detailing in fashion.

The label’s current creative director is the beautiful Kazakhstan-born, Moscow-raised and UK-educated fashion designer-cum-entrepreneur Goga Ashkenazi.

Similar to its high-priced entirely bespoke counterpart haute couture, demi-couture, which comes under the category of ready-to-wear in fashion, is a half custom-made design with great attention given to details and sewing techniques.
